Commander in Chief
United States Navy Fleet

31 May 1966

To the officers and men of the USS ST CLAIR COUNTY (LST1096)

"Your record of achievement in Vietnam and the Western Pacific...should be a source of pride to you in the years to come. I know well of the difficult tasks that faced you, and I know equally well the outstanding manner in which you performed them.

But the final record of the ST CLAIR COUNTY will not be measured in miles steamed, or tons of cargo moved, or assigned missions fulfilled. The important thing is that you have shown all men - friends and foes alike - that no task is too difficult and no place is too remote when the protection of freedom is at stake."
